WORD PROCESSING AND EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE OF SECRETARIES
ABSTRACT
The aim of the study is to carry out a research on Word Processing and Effective Performance of Secretaries.
This study will give the researcher the opportunity to explore all available, accurate and relevant facts about the topic and get something presentable through the knowledge of the course.
Chapter One will concentrate an introductory, historical background of case study and this led to choosing UNITED BANK FOR AFRICA PLC, LAGOS as a case study the scope of study.
Chapter Two concentrates on the literature review, meaning of Word Processing, Duties of Word Processing Operation and Benefit of Word Processing to secretarial practices.
In Chapter Three of this project is a critical analysis of the Research Methodology with a source of Data Collection and Questionnaire to the case study United Bank for Africa Plc, Lagos.
The result of the research analysis and data finding occupied the fourth chapter.
Finally, chapter five rounded off the project gives useful summary, conclusion and recommendation of Word Processing in secretarial practices.
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
The secretarial profession is a very dynamic profession. This is so because every organisation needs a secretary, but the yardsticks for judging quality of its secretarial service is quite different.
The quality of training, and on-the-job performance of secretaries are therefore of great concern to both the teachers and employers.
Since a secretary has a lot to do in an organisation, as far as taking dictation, writing of correspondence, keeping of records, then, there is need to employ Word Processing in order to enhance effectiveness and efficiency in any organisation.
The justification for introducing a Word Processing lies chiefly on the low productivity of the ordinary secretary, faced with the repetitiveness of much typing work. Many items like price lists have to be updated continually (especially in inflationary times), the retyping of such documents is boring and even in a good secretary become disgruntled, lengthy and difficult reports may have to be retyped because of spelling or punctuation errors. Clearly, there is a great need to improve this level of important.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The contribution of Word Processing to a secretary and the over all advancement of secretarial practice cannot be over emphasized.
Hence, to build a solid and effective foundation of Word Processing in secretarial practice is very essential. It is therefore, pertinent to critically examine, and how it is applicable in secretarial practice.
1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROBLEM
The purpose of this study is to describe the procedure and methods, adopted by the secretaries in using the Word Processing and to know how Word Processing inevitably heads to some alterations and adjustments.
Also, this study enables us to know how Word Processing could be used to create new jobs and other jobs retained, and how it can be used to enhance productivity.
