THE METHODS OF TEACHING THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES AND ITS RELEVANCE
ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to examine the effect of family variables and students cognitive achievement in social studies in junior secondary in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The research design adopted for this study was a survey method. The survey design typically employ questionnaire and interview to access the opinion, preferences of people interest to the researcher. The population of the study adopted of 5 out of 9 secondary school in the area. The study adopted a sample size of 200 junior secondary three JSS3 students were randomly selected. To achieve this aim, four need hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. data collected was done using the instrument: family variables and students cognitive Achievement Questionnaire (FVSCAQ), while analysis was done using simple percentages according to the research questions formulated for the study. Also, the hypothesis in the study were tested using the chi square statistic at 0.05 level of significance. The results indicated that parents level of education and parent occupational status have significant effect on students cognitive achievement in social studies while birth, order and family size have no significant effect on students cognitive achievement in social studies. Based on these findings: six recommendations, five educational implications are made and also suggest for further studies in Senatorial Districts, States and Nigeria at Large.
