THE IMPACT OF EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL AND PRODUCTIVITY IN NIGERIA PUBLIC SERVICE
The study was on “The Impact of Employee Performance Appraisal and Productivity in Nigeria public service; A Case Study of Abia State Ministry of Land”. The study aimed at examining performance appraisal as a management tool for measuring productivity; to determine the relationship between performance appraisal and management by objectives (MBO) and identified factors militating against effective and efficient appraisal systems in organizations. Data collection method was secondary data and primary data through random sampling method. In administering data, the main research instruments were questionnaire for data collection and the structured interviews scheduled. The data was presented and analyzed using descriptive statistical tools (mean and simple percentages). And the hypothesis was tested using chi-square (X2) statistical method. It was discovered that performance appraisal is veritable management tool for measuring productivity in Nigeria public service. It was recommended among others that management should provide job training and developmental courses for the employees to retain them with the organization ensuring that they become loyal to it; and the need and fair view of per formal appraisal should be in front of the employees to get the real sense of performance management.
