THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RADIO PROGRAMME TODAY IN POLITICAL MOBILIZATION OF WOMEN

The aim of this research work is based on the Effectiveness of AKBC Radio Programme “Akwa Ibom Today” in Political Mobilization of Women in Oruk Anam, and objectives was to determine the exposure of the women in Oruk Anam, to AKBC-Radio programme “Akwa Ibom Today”. To ascertain if the AKBC-Radio programme “Akwa Ibom State” has help women in Oruk Anam to know their role in politics. The research design used was survey method. The study used a cluster sampling. A total population of women in Oruk Anam was 86,417and 450 respondents was drawn. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The data obtained were converted into percentage through the use of frequency table. The findings revealed that AKBC radio programme “Akwa Ibom Today” has contributed greatly in the enhancement of political mobilization of women in Oruk Anam. Greater number of respondents agreed that AKBC-Radio programme “Akwa Ibom Today” has been used for political mobilization of women in Oruk Anam Local Government Area. The study find out that AKBC Radio programme “Akwa Ibom Today” is an effective medium for promoting women participation in politics. In view of the findings, the researcher recommends that intensive Awareness/mobilization should be carried out from time to time among women in Oruk Anam Local Government Area to enlighten them about their roles in politics.
