    • Background of the Study

Viscosity is the name given to internal friction which exist between layers of a liquid or gas in  motion. When water or any liquid flows through a pipe the velocity is greater at the centre and least at the surface in contact with the pipe.

Viscosity depends on intensive variables such as molecular size, intermolecular forces and temperature. Anyakaha and Okeke (2002).

A temperature increase means that the molecule, have greater thermal speed, which in turn allows a smaller time in which the gain of molecular kinetic energy can be disordered.. The viscosity of most liquids decreases with temperature Beiser, (1979). For lubricants, motor oils and cooking oil the viscosity is sensitive  to the temperature, and varies with different temperature, For example if your use example if you motor oil that becomes very various in cold weather, you will have trouble in starting the engine in winters

In this research work, effort shall be made to determine the viscosity of different oils sample soil in Ikot Ekpene.

 

  • Scope and Objective of Study

The aim of this study is to determine the viscosity of different oil samples namely, palm oil, total SAE 20W – 50 engine oil, olive  oil and groundnut oil sold in Ikot Ekpene.
