SOLVING UNEMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS IN NIGERIA: AN APPRAISAL OF THE NATIONAL DIRECTORATE OF EMPLOYMENT (NDE)
ABSTRACT
Unemployment is a menace in any society. The alarming scale of this syndrome still presents an increasing joblessness amongst graduates of tertiary institutions. This was the vision behind the setting up of NDE as an instrument in counteracting the Ugly phenomena on. The study is concerned with finding solution to unemployment problems in Anambra state by appraising the activities of the national directorate of employment (NDE). It therefore centers on identifying the programmes of NDE in resolving unemployment problems in Anambra state. Find out problems encountered by the NDE in solving these problems. Then help to proffer solution to this nagging issue. The population of the study is two hundred and a sample was determined using Yaro Yamanis statistical method. It is a survey research and the researcher used both secondary and primary source of data to collect relevant data for the study. The study revealed that people participated in the programmes of the national directorate of employment mostly because of inability to find jobs. School leavers in the national directorate of employment programme participated in vocational skill development while graduates were involved in graduate employment schemes. Insufficient funds stand as a fact militating against the success of the national directorate of employment programme. It is therefore recommended that the federal government should create jobs for a permanent. It is therefore recommended that the federal government should treat jobs for a permanent nature by establishing industries so that partakers of the national directorate of employment programme will secure more permanent jobs. Enough funds should also be provided for the directorate to make them more products. In conclusion national directorate of employment stands as one of the yardsticks for finding solution to the problems of unemployment so there is need to increase the activities of NDE so as to attract more people to the programme. And government should provide competent hands to be in Charles or run the national directorate of employment.
