ROUTE SURVEY OF THE ACCESS ROAD TO IKOT UDO EKPAT VILLAGE, ESSIEN UDIM L.G.A, AKWA IBOM STATE
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Route development is important in physical and natural development of countries all over the globe. The used of land tend to increase in areas with expanding route network, declines in areas without any developments. Continuous rise in the use of houses and land are expected in the urban with route improvement and fast economic and population growth.
Countries all over the globe would have been limited in development with out proper transportation (route development which is pivotal for physical and economic grout hand development. Route development coupled with increased investment in transport result in increased investment in transport result in changed levels of accessibility. In order to have access to major roads in the country, development of route is pivotal to physical and economic developments.
The story of urbanization in the country has long history in the growth and development. Some cities in Nigeria are typical examples of growth and development of route in Nigeria. Ikeja, Kano, Port hacourt, are typical examples. Route development starts from a preliminary stage to the finish stage before it becomes mature for use. The surveying aspects cannot be ignored because it is the bedrock of development. Reconnaissance survey is an extensive study of an entire area that might be used for a road. Its purpose is to eliminate those route or sites which are impractical or unfeasible and to identify the more promising routes. Existing maps and are aerial photographs may be of great help. Contour maps shows that the terrain features and the relief of an area. Aerial photograph show up-to-date plan metric details. The reconnaissance survey must include all possible routes and sites. The reconnaissance report should summarized all the collection information, including a description of each route or site, a conclusion on the economy of its use, and where possible, appropriate maps and aerial photographs.
The design characteristics should be considered during the reconnaissance survey. One should keep in mind that future operations may require an expanded road net. A study of the route plans and specifications is necessary. However, during construction, surveys are carried out to realize the paper work, gradient, bridges; boundaries have been ascertained as the work proceeds. The project was designed to conduct a route survey which will produce data for the production of a plan and profile that will be used to plan a proposed route leading to Ikot Udo Ekpat village, Essien Udim local government area, Akwa Ibom State.
The absence of proper drainage system and road network which leads to Ikot Udo Ekpat village in Essien Udim local government area, Akwa Ibom State, which makes it difficult for the inhabitants to pass rainy season prompted me to carry out a route survey that will produce a design for the construction of the road.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The aim of the study was to produce a plan and profile. Its objective was:
- To produce a plan and profile that will be used for planning of the road.
