QUALITY CONTROL IMPROVEMENT IN THE NIGERIAN BREWING

 

ABSTRACT

This research work was focused on Quality Control Improvement in the Nigerian Brewing Industry, a case study of Champion Breweries, Uyo in Akwa Ibom state. To achieve the research objectives, the study made use of survey research design. Convenience sampling technique was used to select fifty (50) respondents as sample size for the study. The instrument of data collection was self-developed questionnaire and the forms were personally administered. Hypotheses were formulated to guide the study and the data were analyzed using chi-square statistical tool. The findings revealed that the needs for quality control in the Nigerian brewing industry are: Satisfaction of customers, Minimization of production costs and increased sales/patronage. In addition, findings revealed that quality control improvement impact on profitability by bringing about improved production standard and good quality of products produced. Also, findings revealed that some of the problems facing quality control are: Non-awareness of techniques of quality control improvement and careless attitude of management towards quality control improvement. Finally, it was seen that the prospects of quality control are: better production quality and enhanced organizational image. Useful recommendations were also offered such as: Regular training should be conducted for staff of manufacturing organization to create awareness about techniques of quality control improvement and quality control equipment should be provided for workers to be able to produce quality products.
