PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF THE INTRODUCTION OF “KEKE” AS MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION IN AKWA IBOM STATE
This research work was undertaken to examine the perception of the people living in Uyo Metropolis regarding introduction of KEKE. The objectives of the study were to know whether there is any reasonable contribution of KEKE to socioeconomic development of the metropolis and also to examine the perception of the people concerning the introduction. The survey was used whereas the population of the study was 14, 000 persons. The sample size was determined at 110 using the statistical formula of Yaro Yamani (1964). The actual sample size was selected using the random sampling technique. The main source of data was the questionnaire used in getting information from the respondent. The study found out that the people are of an unfavourable disposition concerning the introduction of the KEKE and that KEKE was a sustainable means of livelihood for the low class. In view of the findings, the researcher recommended that before the final introduction of KEKE, the government should create employment opportunities for the create alternative means of transportation on KEKE Introduction.
