ABSTRACT
Psychological effects of rape among
minors in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State in the light of 2 Samuel
13:1-22 is an expositional attempt to analyze the event of incestuous act
between Amnon the elder son of King David and Tamar David’s daughter in the
house of King David and to see how its moral lesson could be used to address
the social vice of Rape in study context. Summarily, the work focuses on the
exegetical analysis of 2 Samuel 13:1-22 with a view of using its hermeneutical
applications to suggest how to curtail rape and its attendant psychological
effects. The researcher used the available Biblical materials in the library,
journals, interviews, observations and internet materials to source his data.
The event in 2 Samuel 13:1-22 is an exposition that discloses rape among two
children of King David. This endemic crime was aided by parental gap and
irresponsibility and bad companies. Unfortunately, this crime is a sin against
God and the perpetrators were rejected, dejected and their right forfeited in
the society. This crime also brought about the decline of the reign of David.
Today, it is observed that some parents are not totally committed to the moral
upbringing of their children and as a result they rely on their peer-group who
in most cases will mislead them, consequently, there is an increase in the
number of rapes. The researcher discovered that rape carry such psychological
effect like; maternal mortality, unwanted pregnancy, trauma, bleeding, mental
problems, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases (STDS) among others. The
study request that all stake-holders should respond with genuine effort in
order to save our youths from falling victims of this crime. Suffice this to
say that parents, government and government agencies and private institutions
should help to checkmate our youths against this crime and to possibly offer
help to victims. Perhaps if the parents bring up their children morally and
close all gaps where bad companies will come in and the government provides
stringent punishment for rape plus rehabilitation centers for victims, rape and
victims will be better off in Nigeria.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
A quick review of our present dispensation reveals a lot of immorality and degeneration all over the world, especially in Nigeria. There is an apparent decline of morality in Nigerian society especially among the youths. This has undoubtedly, made an in-road into various segments of human enterprise. Many people have expressed serious concerns over the high level of immoral acts that are enveloping Nigerian society. Admittedly, immoral forms of behaviour like rape, fornication, adultery, homosexuality (gay and lesbianism), unwanted pregnancy, and so on have attracted attentions of many researches. However, this work investigates the psychological effects of rape, borrowing insights from 2 Samuel 13:1-22.
1.1
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The
demand for a king by the Israelites at Ramah in order to be like other nations
at a time that they were consistently being tormented by their neighbouring
nations led to the appointment of Saul, the son of Kish as the first King of
Israel. It is on records that shortly after his appointment, Saul recorded
success when he defeated the Amnonites in a war but this success did not last
for a long time because of the antipathy between him and Samuel, the priest, especially
when he sacrificed at Gilgal before their war against the Philistines. Notably,
his relationship with Samuel degenerated when he spared the life of King Agag
and other valued animals in a war fashioned by Yahweh as a holy war. A holy war
is a war directed by God against the enemies of His chosen nation which demands
that the life of such people and the animals should not be spared, that is,
total extermination.
