PROBLEMS OF TELEVISION PROGRAMME PRODUCTION: A STUDY OF N.T.A CHANNEL 12, UYO

This research study was on the “Problem of television programme production, a study of N.T.A channel 12, Uyo”. The purpose of the study was to ascertain and assess the major problems of television programme production as a result of the involvement of the various divisions in the production process, influence of television industry ownership and socio-cultural factors. The study was based on an opinion survey conducted using questionnaire as the major instrument. Findings from the study discovered the following problems: (1) there are problems and difficulties in program production and these come in the form of equipment, finance, transportation and personnel. (2) Staff adopts some measures to solve these problems by using personal funds for the purchase of tapes, hire of equipment and transportation, performing the function of other production and doing without aesthetic elements like lights. (3) There are also problems created by the various divisions in N. T. A, channel 12 Uyo. These present themselves in independent targeting lack of co-operation and team work among the various division, lack of understanding and unity of purpose by staff as to their roles in the television station. The researcher made the following recommendations based on the findings: (a) The federal government should give more financial support to TV stations and provide the necessary equipment. (b) Broadcasters should be properly trained and team-work among staff should be stressed. (c) Individuals, groups and the society as a whole should support television broadcasting.
