PRESS COVERAGE ON 2015 BUDGET PADDING A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE NATION AND DAILY SUN NEWSPAPERS
This study comparatively examined the Nation and daily Sun Newspaper publications and via Budget padding by the National Assembly between December 2015 and May 2016. The aim of the study is to streamlines the percentage of press coverage of the padding as well as determines the fairness, balance, prominence and objectivity of reports as reported by the nation and daily Sun Newspapers. The study employs the content analysis method, where all editions of the nation and Daily Sun Newspaper for the period were presentation with the following parameters; Population size 4366, with a sample size of 85 using Yaro Yamani statistical formula of 1968, with 0.003 error limit or level of significance resulting in 37 (43%) for the Nation news paper 48 (57%) for Daily Sun Newspaper. The objective of this study is to comparatively investigate between the nation and Daily Sun newspaper which media house gave more prominence to the 2015 budget padding, the percentage of press coverage on editorials, letters to editors, opinions, feature stories, articles and commentaries on the issue of 2015 budget padding, and to know whose reports is more credible and dependable as reported by the two newspapers.
