PERCEPTION OF ON MEDIA COVERAGE OF BOKO-HARAM INSURGENCY IN NIGERIA
Abstract
This study evaluate the perception and thinking of people living in Lagos and cities on media coverage of boko-haram insurgency that has since been a threat to national security and economy decline. The study became essential because of the atmosphere in which Nigerians in the cities operate especially the fear that boko-haram have extended its network to Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Plateau and Gombe states. The study used survey method with 120 copies of questionnaires distributed to residents of Lagos who were drawn using purposive sampling method in which 116 copies were retrieved. Data collected were analysed and interpreted using frequency and percentage method coupled with tables. It is the believe that the media can exist without undue coverage of terrorists devastating activities in selling the papers, it is thus advocated that less coverage should be given to terrorists activities which often make people think that the world is no longer safe to live in. It was discovered that terrorism can be curbed with the provision of adequate weapons for the military and keeping military information as secret as possible because announcing military propose attack on terrorism prepared terrorists to either lay ambush for military troops or change their location.
