1.0 INTRODUCTION
To manage is the forecast and plan, to organize, to command to co-ordinate and to control. The processing of data into information and communication, the resulting of management information system. Data in the term for collections of fact and figures, hours worked invoice values, usage rates items received etc. These basic facts are stored, analyzed, compared, calculated and generally worked on to produce massage in the form the viewpoint of developing relevant management information system, rather than the routine production of standardized reports, consideration must be given to the source of information, the means by which it is communicated and most important of all the meaning attached to the message received and the use made of it. The final link in the communication chain is clearly of critical importance to both the information system designer and user, and again emphasizes the behavioural factors in management information system.
Accordingly as related by Terry (2015:6) organizations are artificially contrive structures with procedures and objectives which should and usually do, adapt to changes in the environment. Management information system exist in organizations in order to help them achieve objectives, to plan and control their processes and operations, to help deal with uncertainly and to help in adapting to change or indeed initiating change.
It is important for information system designers to be aware of the various influences in organization design. These range from earlier mechanistic concepts, largely stemming from the scientific management movement in the early part of the least century to more modern ideas which recognize the social and behavioral.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
There is no universally accepted definition of management information system and those that exist reflect the emphasizes and prejudices of the particular writer.
In today’s national and international business world, information is a priceless commodity, whatever form it takes, without up to the minutes, accurate information, most commercial organization would zincky founded, such business offices serve as hubs or center of information which take in process, store and relay data and messages in a host of situations, financing, selling, building, making, servicing or advising so as to enable all sorts of people to function in their jobs.
The term management information system has become almost synonymous with computer based, data processing and indeed many books with management information system in the title turn out to be exclusively concerned with topics such as system analysis, file design and the various other technical factors of computer based system.
Management is the process of allocating an organization is inputs, including human and economic resources, by planning, organizing, producing goods and services designed by customers so that organization objectives are accomplished. If management has know or planning, organizing, directing and control of the business, its decision can be made on the basis of facts, and decision are more accurate and timely s a result; information enables us to determine the need to create new products and services, information tells us to move into new markets or to withdraw from other markets.
All business organization share one common asset, regardless of the type of business. It does not matter if they manufacture goods or provide services, the common asset is information.
Information enables us to determine the need of create new products and services, without information, the goods do not get made the orders are not placed, the materials are not procured, the customers are not biled, and the business cannot survive.
MIS is an “Interpreted user machine system for providing information to support the operation of management analysis and decision making functions in any organization” The system utilizes computer hardware and software, manual procedures, models of analysis, planning and central for decision making. From the definition, it can be seen that, it is the power of computer system that makes management information system (MIS) feasible.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Stakeholders and management of organization do not take into consideration the application of management information as a tool for sustainable economic development.
