IMPACT OF COMMERCIAL BANKS IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT

Rural life up to date is associated with poverty and socio – economic deprivation for a long time now. About 90% of the foods are produced by the rural dwellers who are mostly farmers. The federal government has opened various development programmes together with both the central bank and commercial banks which are aimed at making credit facilities available to rural dwellers in other to improve economic activities. This research work aims at finding the following:- (a) The Impact of commercial banks on rural development. (b) Social responsibility of commercial banks on rural dwellers. (c) Their role in agricultural development and small-scale enterprises. This research work is limited because of time constraints, finance involved and sometimes non- response from people interviewed. I hope that at the end of this project, it will be beneficial to the society especially in terms of rural development and academic community in their quest for more knowledge empowerment.
