INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Radio is regarded as perhaps one of the most powerful and indeed creative communication media because of its characteristics of sound. Unfortunately, the tremendous power of this medium has not been fully exploited in Nigeria due to poor economy, lack of infrastructures and facilities, varied socio economy background among others factors.
The functions of Radio go beyond information, education and entertainment. It is equally used for shaping and influencing the behaviours and opinions of people as well as a business in itself. It is also used for achieving laid down national objectives like integrating all parts of our communities and the transmission of the social heritage from one generation to the other. For Radio to be above to achieve these objectives, it most fulfill needs, urges and desires of its target audience.
Furthermore, Radio is being used in the society as an important tool by which a nations identity, characteristics, culture, aspiration, and developmental needs are being projected on the popular minds of people within the nation across the nations and throughout the world.
The programme “Kiddies Request in AKBC is an educational programme on the network slot designed to influence children positively in character and habit formation. It is therefore necessary to find out how children react to “Kiddies Request” if it appeals to them or not.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Every mass media programme is design to influence, to inform, to educate its audience depending on the objective of the programme. However, “kiddies request” on AKBC radio progarmme is a programme that inform and educate the children, but it is not certain if Ikot Ekpene children are aware of the programme “kiddies request” on AKBC radio and if they are aware what are their reaction toward the programme.
1.3 Objectives of the Study

- To ascertain their perception about the programme.
- To determine the role of the programme in their academic and social life.
- To ascertain their reaction to AKBC radio programme “Kiddies Request”.
