ABSTRACT
The study investigated home and school factors as correlates of achievement motivation of secondary school students in Enugu State. The study was guided by five research questions and five hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The research design used in the study was correlational survey design. The population was 10984 secondary school students in the 277 secondary schools in the state. The sample was 900 students drawn using stratified random sampling technique. Home factors questionnaire (HFQ), school factors questionnaire (SFQ), achievement motivation questionnaire (AMQ) were the research instruments used for the study. The reliability of the instruments weredetermined using, Cronbach Alpha statistics which yield estimated values of 0.82, 0.84, and 0.74 for the three instruments.Correlation coefficient was used to answer the research questions. t-test for correlation co-efficient was used for the hypotheses. The results showed that: relationship exists between home factors and achievement motivation of students, also relationship exists between school factors and achievement motivation. Relationship also exists between home and school factors and achievement motivation of students. There is significant relationship between students’ achievement motivation based on gender.
