GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMALL AND MEDIUM INDUSTRIES IN NIGERIA
ABSTRACT
This paper is presented into five sections. Section one takes on the background information which comprises the background to the study, research problem, the objectives for the study and the operational hypotheses. Section two takes on the review of related literature, analyzed under theoretical and empirical literature. Section three is the methodology. Section four looks at the discussion of the empirical results, while section five summarizes the findings, draws the conclusion and proffered a recommendation.
Since the office jobs that people desire are no longer there for the teeming population, and the few ones that succeeded in getting the jobs are thrown out as a result of the factors identified above, the need for the government and the people to have a rethink on the way-out of this mess became imperative. Hence, the need for government involvement in the development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) became a reality as a means of ensuring self independent, employment creation, import substitution, effective and efficient utilization of local raw materials and contribution to the economic development of our dear nation (Nigeria).
