ENTREPRENEURSHIP AS A TOOL FOR SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT
ABSTRACT
This study was intended to examine entrepreneurship as a tool for sustaining employment in Somolu local government area of Lagos state. This study was guided by the following objectives; to find out if Entrepreneurship has been a useful tool for sustaining employment in Somolu local government area, to determine whether entrepreneurship education enhances acquisition of the necessary skills for gainful self-employment among youths in Somolu local government area. to identify challenges that hinder entrepreneurship education in Somolu local government area and to proffer solutions to the identified challenges of entrepreneurship in Somolu local government area. The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; questionnaires in addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using the chi square statistical tool at 5% level of significance which was presented in frequency tables and percentage. The respondents under the study were 100 entrepreneurs in Somolu local government area of Lagos state, Nigeria. The study findings revealed that entrepreneurship can serve as a useful tool for curbing unemployment in Nigeria; based on the findings from the study, government should genuinely recognize the essence of entrepreneurship training, job creation and innovation to unemployment reduction by providing the enabling environment for the youths to be gainful empowered.
