CHAPTER ONE
1.1BACKGROUND
OF THE STUDY
The effect of nepotism on recruitment process in
the civil service commission, Imo state, Owerri is found within the broad area
of personnel management. It is the duty of the personnel department in any
organization to recruit human. The effect of nepotism on recruitment will make
the recruitment not to undergo the normal process in the civil service
commission.
That is, to employ based on the tribe without
considering the procedures, for recruitment.
According to Nwosu (1998:9) Nepotism is the process of giving unfair advantages to your own family, if you are in position of power especially by giving them jobs.
“Nepotism” according to Stoner (1978:9) is an act
of doing things in an unfair manner or improper ways of handling some position
in public sector. The purpose of recruitment is based on its needs to find
qualified candidates to fill existing vacancies in an organization which
includes individual achievement and development. It also aims at building a
strong organization where effective team work and individuals are reclined at
the same time.
Thus, we have two sources of recruitment in the
civil service commission which includes internal and external sources of
recruitment. Every organization must adopt recruitment policies, which are
equally used for the achievements of objectives of the organization which will
enable her to achieve aims of recruitment.
This seeks to understand the various strategies for
staff recruitment in the Nigeria civil service commission. The study will be
both descriptive and hypothetical and two main types of activities will be
performed in order to solve the research problem in investigation.
The first activity is the interactive review from
where new authors highlighted.
The second activity is the empirical investigation
of the problem area.
The investigation of the study is made up of the
parts which include:
- Introduction
- Review of the related literature
- Research approach, data analysis, summary and
conclusion.
