DESIGN AN ONLINE SHOPPING SYSTEM
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Online shopping system is a form of electronic commerce which allows consumers to directly buy goods or services from a seller over the internet using a web browser.
Online shopping system helps in buying of goods, products and services online by choosing the listed products from website (e-commerce site) .the proposed system helps in building a website to buy, sell product or goods online using internet connection. Purchasing of goods online, user can choose different products based on categories, online payments, delivery services and hence covering the disadvantage of the existing system ad making the buying easier and helping the vendors to reach wider market.
Shopping via the internet has become one of the most successful use can connect the various and companies and consumers alike. That is because of wealth of time and effort, rather than travel to buy the specific needs of a country. It has been able to the users of the internet to choose whatever goods or things they want. It takes short amount of time to order what is needed and also the are delivered in a short time the easiest way possible.
It is a shop that sets up on the internet, a place that can offer the sever to selling their productions and services without the huge maintenance cost for the management and marketing in the real storefront.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROMBLEM
The current shopping system is critical to set up online shops, customers to browse through the shops, and a system administrator to approve and reject request for new shop and maintain list of shop categories. This is a small scale project for online shopping system. The basic idea is that the candidate can buy product from anywhere during any time by using their card number and password product details information. Customer can view their product details using the card details. This online shopping system involves with two type of users; customer and administrator
Customer Role:
The customers can login/logout the system. He/she can view his/her product details and buy their product. The customer can just view the information whereas he/she could not make changes in the database.
Administrator role:
The administrator plays a vital role in the online shopping system. The administrator controls the entire database. The report of the product is generated by and can add/delete the products from the database.
1.3 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The study is aimed achieving the following objectives:
To create a functional website for people to be able to both buy and sell goods.
To shop while in the comfort of your own home, without having to step out of the door and
To develop an online shop that is easier and more convenient to use.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The following are the significance of the study;
Convenience: You do not have to wait in a line or wait till the shop assistant is ready to help you with your purchase. You can do your shopping in minutes even if you are buying a part also saving time and avoiding crowds. Online shops give us the opportunity to shop 24/7 and also reward us with a “no pollution” shopping.
Better Prices: Another significance of this study is getting cheep deals and better prices from online stores. Products come to you direct from the manufacturer or seller without middlemen involved.
Comparison of prices; Online shops make comparison and research of products and prices possible. Online stores also give you the ability to share information and review with other shoppers who have firsthand experience with a product or retailer.
1.5 SCOPE / DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The scope of the study is to design an online shopping system. The supplementary specification applies to online shopping system. This specification defines the non-functional requirement of the system such as:
Functionality: Since it stand alone application, one or more user may use it at a time.
Usability: Desktop interface
Windows 98/2000/XP/7
Reliability: The system is available during online time only.
Performance: The performance depends on hardware specification
1.6 LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The study is limited to online shopping i.e. its when you are connected via computer system with the internet service that one can have access to shop at any time.
1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS
The following terms were used in the study;
WOSS: Acronym of WAP based online shopping system. I used this acronym in the context.
Customer interface: the WEB pages for WAP customers to browse and buy products, in other words, it is a virtual online WAP shop.
Administrative Module / Administrative Interfaces: The WEB server of WOSS system used by administrator to modify the information of WAP shop.
Item: The aggregation of all sorts of products sold in WAP shop. Furthermore, the separate shopping items which may include several different product catalogs.
Product Catalog: The sort of different products, for instance, all the sport products are classified as ‘sports’ that is named as a product catalog.
Products: The goods traded in WAP shop.
WAP shop: A simulated customer interface (login interface) for system demo, which means WAP shopping item.
WAP Shop Edit: Administrative interface, used for editing, modifying the information of shopping items.
Page editor: Administrative interface, used for editing, modifying the information of product catalog and products.
CRM: Acronym of customer relationship planning.
Opera Navigator: One of the most popular free –to-use web browser supporting WAP up to date.
RSA: Used to model our desired architecture for the project.
Maven: Used to build, manage, and integrate our project
SVN: Revision control system used to keep track of revisions to the project.
