ABSTRACT
This research work on Conflicts in the Implementation of Education Policy in the Administration of Secondary Schools in Enugu State is necessary due to successive years of inconsistencies and confusion of education policy and conflicts in the implementation of educational policies. The government is more or less concerned with economic stability of the state without actually considering the educational development of the state. For any nation or state to develop and become established, that nation’s educational system must be looked into, especially in the area of its policies. The purpose of this research work was to examine the causes of conflicts in the implementation of Education Policy in the Administration of Secondary Schools and how best these conflicts could be managed. Four research questions and two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted all the two hundred and seventy-five (275) secondary school principals in Enugu State and eight (8) political appointees who make policies in Secondary Schools. Researcher developed questionnaire titled Conflict in the Implementation of Education Policy in Secondary School Administration (CIEPQ) was used to illicit responses from the subjects. The reliability of the instrument was determined at 0.96 using cronbach Alpha technique. Mean (X) and standard deviation (SD) were used to answer the research questions while t – test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings from the data analysis showed that conflicts in the implementation of education policy can be well managed through adoption of some vibrant strategies such as; consideration of individual differences, making of sound communication channel, good management style, involving principals in decision-making process by political appointees.
