ABSTRACT

The study investigated the influence of communication modes, religion and parent attitude on the psychosocial adjustment of student with hearing impairment. The study investigated the influence of communication modes, religion and parents attitudes on the psychosocial adjustment of student with hearing impairment. A self-developed structured questionnaire was designed for date collection, Section A focused on the demographic information, while the section B, C, D and E measures the variables of the study. A total number of hundred (100) were the respondents. A descriptive data analysis, Pearson product moment correlation was used to analysis the data.

The result revealed that communication modes and religion has positive relationship with psychosocial adjustment of student with hearing impairment while parent attitude has less relationship with psychosocial adjustment this implies that communication modes and religion has great influence on the psychosocial adjustment of learners with hearing impairment while parent attitude has little or no influence on the psychosocial adjustment of students with hearing impairment.

The study thereby recommends ensuring that best mode of communication should be chosen for the child with hearing impairment and parents should have accurate information about their child’s condition and recognize their needs and support them when necessary.
