ANALYSIS OF WASTE WATER FOR PATHOGENIC BACTERIA IN ENUGU ETROPOLIS (A CASE STUDY OF ABAKPA NIKE HOUSING ESTATE SEWAGE POND)
ABSTRACT
Analysis of wastewater in Enugu metropolis for pathogenic bacteria were carried out, samples of wastewater were obtained from Abakpa Nike Housing Estate sewage pond. The wastewater samples were collected with sterile urine container screw capped bottles. The organisms that were identified after gram staining and biochemical test are: Proteus spp, Bacillus spp, Streptococcus Neisseria spp and Shigella. Due to these bacteria load present in wastewater, it should be channeled out of the source of water supply, surface and ground water to avoid contamination.

INTRODUCTION
1.1 DEFINITION OF STUDY
Wastewater is water that contains impurities; these impurities include waste matters from human bodies, factories, towns and hospitals. Bacteria from human beings, terrestrial and aquatic animals, including plants are transmitted by the water route. The best-investigated bacteria are those that are pathogenic to humans, which includes; staphylococcus, coliforms, anaerobic spore forming bacilli, proteus and other bacteria originated from the intestine of man.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS
There are several problems facing our nation today on wastewater discharge, these problems motivates us to embark on this work which are:
- To isolate sewage pond to prevent contamination
- To be able to know the treatment of sewage pond for irrigation, re-creation and other re-use.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF STUDY
The aim of this project is to analysis the wastewater for pathogen bacteria.
The specific objectives of this project work are:
- To determine the appropriate treatment of wastewater to be collected.
