CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Gender partly in education is a thing of concern in this era. United Nation Conference held in Adis Ababa (2001), show progress on girls’ education will account for over (10) million unnecessary child and material deaths. Education equips girls and women with basic confidence in their abilities and rights and ability to acquire and process in formation and increase power. Before now, female education was not given a second thought due to the fact that most parents felt that money spent on female education is a waste. That after all, the education of female ends in the kitchen as the adage says.

          In Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo state, some home hardly boast of any female university graduates due to the level of illiteracy. The impression of parents on gender inequality towards female education cannot be over emphasized.

          Parents are also the view that women are meant for child bearing taking care of day to day activities of domestic works. Record has proven that women can do as well as their men counterparts.

          Million of girls around the world has been denied education due to selfish believe, all eyes and hands should be on millennium goals to eradicated gender inequality with education as instrument of propagation the values of the society and with the relative success of women in almost all profession and government post societies, vice-visa parents not completely change in granting female’s equal social and education rights.

          According to Ogwuazor (2000) and Nwabumene (2003) the persistence imbalance and hindrance to female education stem primary from perception of parents and society as to what constitute the actual role of women in the society. It is better to balance the ratio of female and male in educational system in other to meet the rest of the world in achieving millennium goals

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

          This research work is to investigate the parents perception towards female education little can be taught in this sense education is essentially a means of guiding children in securing them among and quality of experience.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

i.     to identify parents perception towards female education in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state

ii.    To outline various solution towards female education in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state.

iii.   To create awareness on the importance of female education in Uhunmwonde local government are of Edo state.

iv.  To eradicate illiteracy in our societies.

v.   To  remove the problem of gender inequalities

vi.  To eradicate the thought if not training of female children.

RESEARCH QUESTION

1.   Do you appose that awareness is one of the factors to correct parent’s negative perception towards female education?

2.   Is there any discrimination among female and male in terms of education?

3.   Does illiteracy causes the decline of female education in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state

4.   Does ignorance head parent negative perception towards female education?

5.   Has Uhunmwonde local government ministry of women affair done enough campaign to enlighten the people of Uhunmwonde.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

          This study is importance as the understanding of female education in our societies. It will go a long way to connecting the bad impression towards the training of female children.

          Children who suffer from this stigma or the other are deprived of the benefit of learning processes.

          Education is power” as they say when a child is deprived of the education such child may be nuisance to the society

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

          The study is exclusively limited to the perception of parents towards female education in Uhunmwonde local government area of Edo state. It is not possible to cover the whole Uhunmwonde local government area consequence upon this; the study is limited to the following villages: Ehor village, Obagie village, Igieduma village.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Perception: Is the ability to see, learn or understanding things awareness improves ones power perception on a deeper natural understanding.

Education: Is the transmission of ideals and value of people in order to transform into mind so as to be useful to themselves and contribute to their quarter p-art development of their society.

Persistence: Continuing to do in spite of difficulties his persistence was rewarded when they finally agree to resume discussion

Awareness: Making people to know the important of something the effects of something public awareness to the projects.
