A REVIEW OF THE STATE OF ELECTRICITY GENERATION IN NIGERIA FROM 2007 TO 2015
Successive governments in Nigeria have shown commitment to improving the availability of electricity in Nigeria, with the formulation of several regulations and policies. Several projects to increase the generation capacity has been implemented, and some completed, but the transmission and distribution capacities have not grown pari passu. The electricity generation capacity, in 2014, has increased in steps from its values in 2007; although, more still needs to be done for Nigeria to generate power to satisfy its needs especially in the area of diversifying Nigeria energy mix from hydro and gas to include wind, solar, and coal. In addition, power generation faced many challenges between 2009 and 2010 where the country faced its worst power situation in recent time.
