A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE PIONEER AND THIS DAY NEWS PAPER COVERAGE OF THE AKS GOVERNMENT JANUARY

The research seeks to study “The Coverage of Political News in Akwa Ibom State. (A Comparative Study of The Pioneer and This Day Newspapers Between June 2013 to June 2014). Also, find out the methods that were used by The Pioneer and This Day newspaper in gathering political news in Akwa Ibom State. The Study’s survey was the content analysis. The study’s population was 192 and a sample of one hundred and thirty (130) was drawn from known population through Yaro Yamani (1964) statistical tool (see study’s appendix). Data for the study were presented using frequency distribution tables. In analyzing the obtained data the researcher adopted simple percentage and statistical tool. Study’s findings revealed that feature stories were not adopted by The Pioneer and This Day newspaper in the coverage of political news in Akwa Ibom State. On sources of reports The Pioneer and This Day newspaper did not focus on News Agency reports. Then, The Pioneer newspaper was the only newspaper that focused on interview.
